Information CleanTheme accesses
CleanTheme requests the Shopify read_themes permission. This permission allows CleanTheme to read theme file names and theme file contents from the active Shopify theme so the app can generate a cleanup report.
Theme files are read during a scan so CleanTheme can detect possible cleanup concerns. CleanTheme does not automatically edit, delete, publish, or clean theme files.
Information CleanTheme stores
To install and operate the app, CleanTheme stores technical Shopify app session information such as:
- Shop domain
- OAuth session/access token information required to authenticate with Shopify
- Granted scope information, such as
read_themes - Token expiry or refresh token fields when required by Shopify authentication
CleanTheme does not collect, store, or sell customer personal data from Shopify stores. CleanTheme does not require access to orders, products, customers, payments, discounts, or marketing data.
How scan results are used
Scan results are shown inside the CleanTheme app and may be exported by the merchant as a text report. Findings are review flags only. They are not automatic proof that code must be removed. Merchants should confirm with a developer before manually changing theme code.
Data retention
CleanTheme keeps app session data while the app is installed so the app can authenticate with Shopify. When the app is uninstalled, CleanTheme receives Shopify's app/uninstalled webhook and deletes stored sessions for that shop.
Third-party services
CleanTheme is hosted on Render. Shopify authentication and app data are handled through Shopify's official app framework and APIs.
Data sharing
CleanTheme does not sell merchant data or customer data. CleanTheme does not share Shopify store data with advertisers.
Security
CleanTheme uses Shopify OAuth and webhook verification to authenticate requests. Access is limited to the scopes required for the app to function.
